The Transit of Venus DVD

RECOMMENDED!

The Transit of Venus DVD - £9.99

In 2004, Dr Allan Chapman gave one of his inimitable lectures in Bournemouth about that year’s Transit of Venus, which at that time was the first to be seen for over a century. The SPA issued an audio recording of the talk, accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation of slides. To celebrate the 2012 Transit, we are reissuing this presentation in DVD format for viewing with a DVD player and TV. This is Allan Chapman at his best, talking without notes and with great scholarship and good humour. He covers the reasons for the transit, why it was once of great importance to observe the event, how the transit was first predicted and observed by Jeremiah Horrocks in Lancashire, and the famous intrepid 18th century expeditions to observe the transits. Duration 75minutes, 4:3 aspect ratio. Note: this DVD does not contain video footage of the lecture.
